Luke Obrien
Luke O'Brien is a Tasmanian landscape photographer based in Hobart. Luke has presented and displayed his images for many years at Salamanca Market and his own gallery on Melville St which was open from 2009 to 2013.
In addition to developing his original range of landscape images, Luke also specialises in photographic tours and tuition, and runs regular workshops to places such as Cradle Mountain, Bay of Fires, Mt Field and the Styx Valley.
In recent times, Luke has achieved some success photographing the southern lights in some well loved Tasmanian locations including Coles Bay and Cradle Mountain. Luke's Coles Bay aurora photograph was selected as the cover shot for the "Aurora Chasers Handbook" and also as an Australia Post stamp which was released in August 2014. Luke’s “aurora chasing” was recently featured nationally on the ABC’s 7:30 show (Sept 2015).
Luke is also proud to contribute photographs to conservation issues across Tasmania such as the Tarkine and other forest issues, and as resident photographer for the Raptor Refuge in Kettering. Luke’s raptor photographs are used in the annual calendar for the refuge, which is a major fundraiser for raptor conservation in Tasmania.
